It's Wacky Winter Weather Week here at NBC25.  For the next five days Mid-Michigan schools are going to help you understand some of the things that make you go "hhmm."  Today we learn why you can't enjoy that super cooled pop you left in the car.
Hi, I'm Ali Kranz.  This is Ubly Schools.  And this is our science minute.  Go Bear Cats.  Has this ever happened to you?  You leave a pop in the freezer or a cold car, only to find it a liquid?  Then you open it up and it turns to ice or slush.  This happens because of the pressure inside the bottle.  The normal freezing point for water is 32 degrees.  But there is a higher pressure in the bottle.  This pressure causes the freezing point of water to be lowered and a pop to remain lizuid at lower than 32 degrees.  Once the pressure is released from the bottle, the liquid immediately turns to a solid.  I'm Hailey Kubacki from Ubly schools, and this has been a science minute.
Now tomorrow we learn from Flushing Middle School what happens when you throw boiling water into super cold air.  Check it out tomorrow.  They have some cool video of the process.
