The Genesee County treasurer creates a prevention work group to try to reduce the sky-rocketing number of tax foreclosures in the county.
The 20-member group is made up of elected officials and social service emergency officials.
The treasurer says last year there were 2,300 tax foreclosures in the county, and that if nothing is done, more than 2,500 will foreclose this year because they didn't pay their property taxes.
"If we start looking at this as a whole from everybody we're going to find solutions that we can, maybe not solve every problem, but certainly put some things in place to make it a little easier for the tax payer," says Treasurer Deb Cherry.
Officials say the interest charged to delinquent owners is too high and that they want to possibly create a payment plan to make it easier.
Home-owners have until the end of March to pay their property taxes.
