An early morning hit and run in Deckerille caused the entire village to lose power Friday.

Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki said someone hit a Detroit Edison utility pole around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of Black River and Lucha streets, causing the pole to arc.

Witnesses and police reports said a red pickup truck was traveling west on Black River Street and veered off the road and into the pole. The collision caused the pole to break in the middle but remain standing. The entire village, including Deckerville Hospital lost power.

Police said evidence suggests the pickup was a larger truck, possibly with a snow plow or a heavy duty bumper on the front. The truck left the scene and the driver did not report the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call (810) 648-2000.
