Spider problem prompts Mazda6 recall.
One Japanese automaker is afraid of spiders. The Mazda6 5-Star crash safety rating can’t seem to compete with the tiny insect. About 52,000 U.S. sports sedans are being recalled, because the automaker says a spider could spin a web in the fuel tank system, and clog up the ventilation. Clogged ventilation could lead to fuel leaks and/or a fire.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationsays only a certain kind of spider could do this, but they’re not releasing any further details about the species.
As odd as it may sound, the Associated Press reports that the arachnid issue has already been reported in two different cases.
Mazda6 owners can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 or visit safercar.gov to learn more about the recall.
