Economic impact of baseball season felt throughout Midland
MIDLAND -- Some say that Opening Day for the Great Lakes Loons is better than Christmas, and while you won't see colorful lights, you will see about 2,500 balloons at Wolverine Bank in downtown Midland.
Employees came in two hours early to blow up, tie...
"My fingers hurt," said Wolverine Bank Employee, Ashley Kerby.
And gather bunches of balloons to hand out at the parade.
"We're a community bank and we look to support things in the community," added Wolverine Bank Employee, Denise Avery.
Next door at Diamond Jim's, waiter Zack Coleman gets ready to serve 40 people at a time!
He says the free food and cheap beer will bring in hundreds of fans and hopefully hundreds in tips.
He anticipated being on his feet for eight straight hours, so to stay on his A-game, he wore a pair of non-slip shoes.
"Definitely a big help for me and they're nice and black and go with my black shirt," said Coleman.
Across the street at the Midland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, "Louie the Headless Loon" sets up shop as he gets passers-by and the entire staff excited.
"He's representing our Loons players and we think he's pretty hot," said Sonja Wood.
And if Louie did have a head, he'd be wearing a brand new hat out this season.
Also new is a line of vintage clothing for women.
Loon pet leashes arrived Thursday, just in time for the game.
The Loon Loft says they've sold enough merchandise to already be on track to meet their goal this year.
That sounds like a fantastic start to the season.
