NBC25's sister station, WDIV-TV, reports that a man shot and killed a police officer in southwestern Michigan before killing himself. The Kalamazoo Public Safety department says officers tried to talk with the 31-year-old man on the porch of a home about 11:18 p.m. Monday while investigating reports of gunfire.  They asked the man if he had heard shots.

WDIV-TV  reports that the suspect then went towards police, and began shooting with an officer before running from the home. He then began firing at police again.  One officer was struck before the suspect turned the gun on himself. Both the officer and suspect died from the gunshot wounds.
