A man is behind bars for kicking a puppy to death.

NBC25’s sister station, 7&4 News, reports Maurice Francis kicked the 12-week-old dog named “Blu” 18 feet and into a wheelchair ramp.  The puppy died from the injuries.

The Leelanau County Sheriff say Francis showed up at his father’s home and was drunk. His father refused to let him in, so he went on a rampage and abused the dog.

The Associated Press reports Francis pled guilty to killing or torturing an animal and felony drunken driving, and in exchange malicious destruction of property charges were dropped.

7&4 News reports that if Francis is found guilty, he faces four years in prison for the animal cruelty charge, and up to five years for the OWI charge.

Do you think Francis should have been able to make a plea deal in this case? Leave us your comments below.
