Married father of three runner dies during Michigan race

Our sister station, WOOD TV8 reports former GVSU football player, Jason Kinzler died of "sudden cardiac death" caused by artery disease.

The condition is called Atherosclerosis

Tragic news from the Fifth Third 25K River Bank Run in Grand Rapids Saturday.

A runner collapses and dies.

It happened around 11 o'clock Saturday morning near the 14-mile marker of the 15 and a half mile race.

The Grand Rapids Press says it was 37-year-old Jason Kinzler, a married father of three and former star linebacker at Grand Valley State University.

Emergency crews tried to revive him, but he never regained consciousness.

The medical team says eight to 10 people were taken to the hospital during the race most complaining of chest pain and dehydration.
