BAY CITY -- A 7-year-old girl will have to undergo reconstructive surgery after a Pit Bull viciously mauled her.

The Bay City Police report it happened at a relative’s home in Bay City Tuesday night.  She was feeding the pet, when it latched onto her head and face and dragged her.

Bay City Animal control is holding the dog in quarantine as the prosecutor investigates possible charges for the dog owner, and what to do with the animal.

Police tell NBC25 the injuries were not life threatening.  The AP reports that the wounds were deep enough, however, that the child will have to have surgery.

In light of this attack, a Bay County Commissioner is once again pushing to have the area develop ordinance that would change dog laws in the area, just as Saginaw County did with its "Dangerous Dog Ordinance."

There has been much debate in Mid-Michigan concerning “dangerous dogs” lately. Do incidents like this confirm that Pit Bulls and other “dangerous dogs” need to be outlawed?
