SAGINAW -- Nearly a thousand gathered Friday to remember Mark Morley, who died during the Chicago-to-Mackinac sailboat race earlier this month.

Morley and Suzanne Bickel both died when the sailboat Wingnuts capsized during a brutal storm on July 18th.

Thursday, friends and family met at the Temple Theatre in Saginaw to remember the much-loved resident and businessman.

The thing that always impressed me about mark is you bring up almost any topic and he had some creative and interesting ideas, I learned a lot from him,” Scott Seeburger told NBC25 Thursday.  “The Morley name itself has such a history has been heavily involved in the city's events and activities the foundation, it's a terrible loss because we don't have that leadership anymore,” Floyd Klock stated.

Six other Wingnuts crewmembers survived the storm. They attended the memorial service Thursday.

Morley’s friends and family say he died doing what he loved.
