TUSCOLA CO. -- The Tuscola County Sheriff reports a plane crashed into a field Friday.
Fifty-eight year old Robert Parsell reportedly called 911 from his cell phone, around 8:00 p.m. Friday, reporting that he had just crashed his ultralight plane into a field. He gave several locations of where the plane might be, and authorities eventually tracked him down to a farm near Deckerville and Garner in Gilford Township.
The sheriff reports that Parsell told officers that his engine lost power. The pilot knew he couldn’t make it over the power lines, so he decided to fly beneath them and crash into the corn field.
Parsell was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, at this point, it appears he only suffered a fractured leg.
The FAA said they didn’t need to respond to the scene.
