Two Michigan women, who were visiting the Indiana State Fair when a stage collapsed and killed several people, narrowly escaped the incident alive.
Crowds were anxiously anticipating the Sugarland concert Saturday night, when the weather suddenly became violent. People at the event described the instant gusts of winds and rain as tornado-strength.
The crowd began to run for cover, some running towards the fence, other towards the concert stage. Horrifically, the gust caught the stage’s awning, and sent the entire unit collapsing on the unsuspecting people below.
NBC25’s sister station, WOOD-TV, reports that two Michigan women were at the event. They had decided to run towards the fence to take shelter instead of rushing towards the stand, a decision that saved their life. You can watch their full interview below:
Tragically, the accident took the lives of five people and injured dozens more.
