When the economy struggles, many rush to the military for a job, but now that's not always an option.
NBC25 spoke with military recruiters in Flint Township who say there are a set number of jobs in the service, and that there are many more who want in.
Military leaders say they're not looking to simply fill positions but to find the best fit for those jobs.
"We actually do have a waiting list. Right now, I've got about six people that are waiting to get a spot in the Navy," says Officer Nick Walker, a Navy recruiter.
Recruiters say, this should not discourage people from applying.
They say if you meet the qualifications they will find a spot for you.
