An Isabella County judge has continued the preliminary injunction currently in place.
Steven Smith, Director of Public Relations for CMU, issued the following statement Friday:
“Isabella County Circuit Court Judge Paul H. Chamberlain today continued the preliminary injunction issued on Aug. 22 following an agreement by Central Michigan University and the CMU Faculty Association subject to several conditions. This court action ensures CMU students’ academic instruction will continue without further disruption and that the fact finding process will proceed as scheduled.
The CMU Faculty Association was ordered to not engage in further work stoppage activities and the university will reinstate union dues collection and grievance procedures.
In addition, CMU FA members will have the option to select an alternate prescription drug benefit. A hearing on unfair labor practice charges filed by both parties will be delayed until the issuance of a fact finding report.
“We are extremely pleased with today’s court action, which places the priority on student learning and academic achievement,” said Executive Vice President/Provost E. Gary Shapiro. “We now look forward to reaching an agreement through fact finding.”
The Michigan Employment Relations Commission has appointed Barry Goldman to oversee the fact finding process with hearings scheduled to begin on Sept. 7.”
