Eating a cheeseburger or adding butter to your meal could cost you more in one country that’s trying to tax unhealthy foods.
CBS News reports Denmark has imposed a “fat tax.” The cost of the tax depends on the fat content of the food. Approximately 2.2 pounds of saturated fat is worth about $3.00 in taxes!
Denmark’s government officials implemented the tax in an attempt to increase Danes’ health and life expectancy.
Michiganhas considered somewhat similar taxes. Legislators have been considering passing pop taxes, in which consumers would pay more for sodas in an effort to raise money and promote health.
