MIDLAND -- The Midland Police Department says a phone scam has been targeting Mid-Michigan residents.

The Police Department reports many local people have called their office saying they’ve received a phone call from someone claiming to be their family member asking for help.

The family member, who typically identifies himself as a grandson, asks for money for some sort of emergency.  For example, in at least one instance he says he is “out of the county and needs money for medical treatments” or he “is in jail an needs money for bail.”

The Midland Police Department is reminding residents to never send money or give personal information to callers like this.

If you have, though, received one of these calls, please file a complaint with the Midland Police Department by contacting 989-839-4648 so they can track down the scam artists responsible.
