SAGINAW -- Saginaw's newly elected city council members were sworn in Monday night.

Incumbents Dan Fitzpatrick and Amos O'Neal were sworn in along with new faces Floyd Kloc, Annie Boensch and Norman Braddock.

The city council then re-appointed Greg Branch as mayor, a mostly cermonial position in Saginaw. The council voted in Dennis Browning as Mayor Pro-tem.

Many of the officials NBC25 spoke with say the most pressing issue is still what to do with the city hall building. A millage that would have provided $7 million dollars to renovate the building was voted down by residents.

"I think what people need to see is that is really the people's building it's been here almost 80 years. I think most of the city council is behind what city manager Darnell Early is trying to do," said council member Dan Fitzpatrick.

"I think at this time, in this economy the $7 million dollar price tag was intimidating and they weren't alone. So we'll have to figure out another way to get it done," said Mayor Greg Branch.

City manager Darnell Early says since the millage was rejected he and city council members will have to find another way to fund the much needed repairs.

"Without the additional monies we're just going to take from our existing funds and and that means that we've got evaluate services we are currently providing and see how much we can shift to this badly needed building, " said Early.
