MT. PLEASANT -- The Michigan man who was allowed to stay on food stamps, despite winning the lottery, has now pleaded guilty to a drug charge.
The Associated Press reports Leroy Fick pleaded guilty Thursday to possession of hydromorphine and driving with a suspended license.
NBC25 reported in May of this year that Fick had been allowed to continue to receive food stamps, despite winning $2 million in the lottery. Fick allegedly called the state to notify them when he won, but due to technicalities in the law, he was allowed to remain on the welfare assistance.
Since then, the Michigan Senate has been pushing to ban lottery winners from receiving welfare.
