There have been 55 murders in Flint this year. That's down from 66 in 2010, but keep in mind last year was a record-breaking year including the alleged killings from accused serial stabber Elias Abuelazam.

The previous high was 25-years-ago, but that's back when flint had more than 30,000 additional residents.

December 23rd's murder of Andre Morris on the 2600 block of Franklin marked Flint's 55th homicide for 2011.

City leaders say they're doing as much as they can with the resources they have.

Those we talked to today did not blame the drop in police.

Ed Miller, who manages The Money Box Pawn Shop in Flint says, "Your 16 to 22 year olds, they're out on the streets. At one time we had a curfew. What happened to the Flint curfew? There's no reason for kids to be out on the street after midnight."

Some residents blame the breakdown of the home, loss of jobs, and people with little to do and the idea they have nothing to lose.

"If you find a kid that's not scared of anything, he doesn't fear God, can't tell him nothing, that's a dangerous kid," says Norm Bryant of Flint.

"The housing has a lot to do with it. Burned out buildings and stuff like that, and that's where they go," says Miller.

It's a lack of respect, says others, by settling differences with violence.

"The bottomline is people need to be educated on how to live and get along," says Bryant. "These kids look at TV and they think if you go out and shoot somebody you're going to see them next week, but that doesn't happen."

Some residents say they are scared to report crimes fearing something may happen to them.

However, police say it's the only way for criminals to be taken off the streets.

Meanwhile, the Saginaw News says Saginaw County recorded 15 homicides this year.

However, cityrating.com reports that while the city's violent crime rate may be up, overall there's a downward trend, with property crimes decreasing compared to numbers from 2009.

In Bay County, law enforcement tells us that violent crime is down, but thefts and burglaries are up.

They blame the economy and drug use for the increases.
