Bridge work to begin today on M-54 and I-475

FLINT -- Bridge work is expected to slow traffic as a pair of maintenance projects will begin today on sections of M-54 and I-475 in Flint.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said drivers should expect single-lane closures on M-54 from south of Atherton Road to north of Lippincott Boulevard and over Tread Creek, according to a news release.

The new work includes bridge raid upgrades and safety improvements along with fixes to the sidewalks and ramps.

On I-475 in Flint, the project includes work on four bridges, inclduing I-475 under Third and Kearsley street, and eastbound and westbound on Longway Boulevard.

Northbound on I-475, the left lane will be closed starting south of I-69, continuing north through Longway and southbound on I-475 will see the left lane closed north of Longway continuing south to south of I-69. 

The Third Street Bridge will be closed for approximately four weeks and the following detour has been posted: Eastbound Third Street will be detoured onto southbound Chavez Drive to eastbound Fifth Street to northbound Chavez Drive.
