The city of Flint is attempting to eliminate blight. Federally funded programs are turning neighborhood eye sores into newly renovated homes. It is considered the largest home tour in Genesee County and it features seven homes.
William Hammond said, "this is kind of a historic neighborhood. It was the first planned neighborhood in the city of Flint."
Long rich history that you could be apart of, but you don't have to have millions in the bank. Among other items, It just takes $1,000 to own a home.
"In most instances someone can become a home owner for less than what they are paying for rent," added Hammond.
Barbara Arvly told NBC25 that the house payment on one of the homes would be about $450 a month.
It's part of Genesee County Land Bank's home tour. Where properties part of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 are transformed from the worse house on the block into the best house.
Some of these homes in Metawanenee Hills are ready for you to move in.
"The roof was taken off. The entire floor structure was redone and an entire second floor added," Hammond said.
One of the homes off North Grand Traverse is not finished. However, renovation plans to be completed by the Fall.
Arvly said the tours are the 1st Saturday of every month. The Land Bank picks an area and it's from 11-2 p.m.
