Tuesday is primary election day in Michigan.

Polls will be open from 7 am till 8 pm.

There will be several items on the ballot of note. Voters will have to declare as a Democrat or Republican, then vote only for the candidates in those parties. Attempting to vote for both will invalidate the ballot.

Primary races for US Senate and House will be on the statewide ballot. State house candidates are up for election. In Genesee County, the democratic state House race for the seat currently being held by Rep. Richard Hammel will be closely watched. It pits Mott Community College board member Pam Ferris against Genesee County Commissioner "Shorty" Gleason. Both have relatives in politics. Ferris is the wife of former Lt. Governor John Cherry. Gleason is the cousin of State Senator John Gleason. Genesee County voters will also be voting on a renewal for the MTA.

In Frankenmuth, there's a Recreation Millage vote that's drawing interest.
