Turnout is good at Frankenmuth City Hall, partly due to a millage for a new recreation center.

Authorities say voters are being asked to decide the fate of a .9 mil proposal, that would raise property taxes for 26 years. The proposed 3.7 million dollar recreation center would be built on a rural site at Weiss and Jefferson. Although it sits in Frankemuth Township, it would be annexed to the city if the measure passes.

It would include state of the art facilities that include a two-story indoor elevated track, four multi-use courts and meeting and recreation areas. The outdoor facilities would include 13 fields for soccer, baseball, softball, football and lacrosse, a playground, and walking path.

Owners of a 100 thousand dollar home in the city would pay about 45 dollars extra in property taxes.City residents would pay no entrance fee. If voters say yes, ground would be broken in March.
