GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP -- A local boy scout is using his business prowess to help the proposed dog park in Grand Blanc Township get a pavilion.

The township board gave final approval of the site plan for the dog park last week.  When complete, the three-acre bark park will be located at Creasy Bicentennial Park on Grand Blanc Road.

On Thursday night, 14-year-old Jonathan Kocks held a pasta dinner fundraiser at Da Eduardo to raise funds for the construction of a pavilion.  Kocks said, as a dog owner himself, he'd like to see the park pavilion provide shade and also attract dogs and their owners to the park.

The Eagle Scout hopeful needs to raise about $4,000 dollars to build the pavilion, and he’s almost there.

"I've pulled out a lot of leadership from this, and it's really made me better at planning ahead and seeing different possible outcomes,” Kocks said.

“But I realize i'm not done yet and I still have a lot more to take from it."

Kocks is also holding an electronics recycling drive in the near future to raise money for the project, which will cost a total of $6,000 to $10,000.
