FLINT -- More than $4 million in grants and a neighborhood stabilization program will fund the demolition of about 300 homes in Flint.

The Genesee County Land Bank also plans to demolish another 300 to clean up the city and reduce crime.

The work will be carried out north and south of Pierson Road from Clio Road to the Flint River and south on Saginaw Street to Stewart Avenue.

"We now have the orders to proceed all the contracts are signed we should begin this week," Emergency Manager Ed Kurtz said.

The city will also send a proposal for a blight elimination grant to the state to secure additional funding.
