FLINT -- Flint Community Schools Superintendent Linda Thompson is resigning.

In letter to the Flint Board of Education Thompson submitted her 90-day notice with the intent of retirement.

Superintendent Thompson sent a letter out to all employees Thursday afternoon announcing her plans for retirement.

In the letter Thompson says, "I have spent 36 years dedicated to the students, staff, parents and community of Flint.  It has been with great love and appreciation that I have served this community.  It has been an honor and a privilege, and not one that I took for granted."

Thompson has served as the Superintendent of Flint Community Schools since June of 2008.

The school district said it will have no further comment regarding the contents of Superintendent Thompson's Letter.
