If you want better roads in Michigan, several mayors say you need to open your wallet.

Numerous mayors from around the state are asking the legislature to approve measures that would boost money for road, bridge and transportation improvements. The proposal could cost drivers around $12 more a month in gas taxes and vehicle registration fees.

Some officials say Michigan could lose federal transportation money because the state isn’t investing enough of its own money in the project. The mayors are hoping the proposal will be approved by year’s end.
