Friday is one day Americans nationwide are wearing red because "going red" is a way of showing support for women's heart disease awareness.
Employees at Health Plus are stepping up by placing red dresses on their walls in an effort to raise heart disease awareness. Heart disease is the number one killer among women.
"My mother past away after suffering a silent heart attack," Steve Sorenson, a Health Plus employee, stated. Sorenson lost his mother verene to heart disease in 2000. "When it was finally diagnosed, she had lost 90% of her heart capacity and past away in 3 months," he recalled.
When Steve's mother past away, he started making heart healthy choices. "Get my cholesterol checked, get my blood pressure checked, eat healthier, and work out more" was what he did when he decided to make the change of life.
Linda Cordova's life changed when her father died of a stroke at the young age of 56. She's been heart healthy ever since. "I'm only 7 years from that and I can't imagine myself 7 years from now not being here for my family. So I think this has given me a lot of strength," Cordova stated.
Jennifer Szumowicz wears red in honor of Uncle Bob, who died of a heart attack. She wants to live a heart healthy life for not only her uncle, but for her children. "I want to be here for them I want to be here for their kids so I'll do anything I can do be here for them," Szumowicz said.
