A report out this week from the government accountability office says, "it's not sure the TSA will meet an august 2010 deadline requiring that all cargo carried on passenger planes is screened." The cargo is placed next to luggage in the plane's belly but is subject to looser inspection requirements. The report says the TSA may not have enough inspectors or adequate equipment to guarantee that all cargo is checked for bombs.
A TSA spokesperson says inspectors are being hired rapidly.
