(AP) -- A Christian education convention is expected to bring more than 40,000 people into downtown Detroit and pump millions of dollars into the area's struggling economy.

The National Baptist Convention's annual session will run from June 22-26 at Cobo Center. The Michigan Baptist Fellowship is the host committee.

The national organization says in a release the session is its primary education and training arm.

Hundreds of singers from 84 Michigan churches also will perform as a mass choir on June 22 at Cobo.

The National Baptist Convention was founded in 1886.
