FLINT -- The following is a message from the Genesee County Road Commission:

The Genesee County Road Commission and the City of Flint announced Wednesday that they have reached an agreement to repair Carpenter Road between Saginaw Street and Clio Road, a segment that borders the City and Mt. Morris Township. After inspecting and making any necessary repairs to catch basins and other underground drainage structures, the Road Commission will do heavy pothole patching on the segment, followed by machine patching on larger sections as required. Work will begin the week of July 20th and should be completed before the end of July.

Although not as extensive as a full overlay, the $30,000 heavy repair is designed as a temporary measure to keep the road safe and improve its rideability until additional funding is available.

Under the agreement all work will be done by Road Commission staff and the cost of the project will be shared between the City and the Road Commission.

The segment has been submitted for federal aid funding, which, if approved, would allow more extensive treatment, including repairs to the road base and milling and resurfacing the entire segment. The earliest these additional funds would be available is 2012. The road was last repaired with a “micro-surface” treatment in 1997 and currently has a surface rating of 3 on the PASER 10-scale.
