Dayne Walling, the new mayor of Flint, took the oath of office before a packed crowd in city council chambers Thursday.
Walling told residents at the event, he plans to focus his efforts on fighting crime and bringing jobs to Flint.
"We're at great depression levels of unemployment now and that needs to change," he said.
Right after taking the oath of office, he posted a sign reading "Open for Business" on city hall's front doors. He then promised to overhaul the city's policies on licenses, permits, and the way the city interacts with businesses.
Walling beat Brenda Clack on Tuesday with 63 percent of the vote.
Walling was set to be confirmed yesterday as the new mayor, however, the group that certifies election results did not finish in time.
Walling was sworn in at 2 p.m.
