(AP) -- Wayne State University is breaking ground for a new chemistry building named for entrepreneur A. Paul Schaap. The ceremony is set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Detroit campus. Schaap was a chemistry professor at Wayne State. In 1986, he discovered an efficient light-emitting molecule that led to the founding of Southfield-based Lumigen Inc.

He and his wife Carol gave $7.7 million toward the building project.
