The following is a message from the Shelter of Flint:
As the holidays approach, Shelter of Flint asks the Flint community to “adopt-a-family.”
Contributors are matched with a family for the holidays and asked to purchase a present for each “adopted” family member. Donors bring the gifts to the Shelter, wrapped or unwrapped, and can expect to receive, in the mail, a personal thank you from the “adopted” family.
“This program is so special because you can actually see where your donation is going,” says Sara Harris, Program Director. “You don’t just give money, you give a gift that someone can unwrap with their family during the holidays.”
Shelter of Flint finds this program is popular with groups such as service clubs, says Anne Grantner, Fund Development Director.
“Many school and church groups like to do this project together because it’s a great way to bond over sharing what we have,” says Grantner. “Friends will often get together and each one purchases a gift for one member of the “adopted” family. They feel good about giving and have fun at the same time.”
To adopt a family or find more information, please call Anne Grantner at (810) 238-4711, ext. 304.
