(AP) -- An affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers says a majority of non-tenure track faculty members at Central Michigan University have filed for a vote on unionizing. The Union of Teaching Faculty said Wednesday it filed the request with the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. English instructor and union spokeswoman Mary Ann Freling says her group is one of the few on the Mount Pleasant campus without a union.

University spokesman Steve Smith says Central Michigan has several bargaining units and will cooperate with this one should teachers vote to unionize.

Earlier this month, the American Federation of Teachers filed for a vote on unionizing non-tenure track faculty at Ferris State University.
