(AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm has set up a special council to oversee the implementation of the federal health care law in Michigan.
The new Health Insurance Reform Coordinating Council will be headed by state Community Health director Janet Olszewski and include seven to eight members from other state agencies.
Granholm created the council through an executive order she signed Wednesday at Sparrow Hospital. The order also creates an Office of Health Insurance Consumer Assistance within the state agency that oversees insurance companies and state banks.
The Democratic governor praised the federal law, saying about a third of the 1.2 million uninsured in Michigan will now be covered by Medicaid and others will be able to get coverage they're now denied.
