(AP) -- A suburban Detroit attorney has been charged with smuggling Xanax pills and chewing tobacco pouches into Oakland County Jail to her incarcerated fiance. Attorney Nina Backon was arraigned Tuesday at 50th District Court in Pontiac on one count each of furnishing contraband to prisoners and delivery of a controlled substance. A $10,000 personal bond was set and she's due back in court for a May 18 hearing.
Sheriff's officials said the 35-year-old attorney came to the jail May 7 to visit 23-year-old Eric Wilamowski, serving a 93-day sentence for possession of drug paraphernalia. Suspicious deputies searched Wilamowski and found six pills and 10 chewing tobacco pouches.
Backon, who filed her appearance on Wilamowski's case, also was arrested and lodged at the jail.
