SAGINAW -- A Mid-Michigan woman has died in a house fire.

It happened around 9:00 am Friday on the 900 block of N. Mason St. in Saginaw.

Fire Marshall Gregory Barton says the 49 year old was smoking in bed and fell asleep.  Barton also says the home’s smoke detectors did not have batteries.

The woman was also an amputee and couldn’t escape the flames.

Fire officials remind people to never smoke in bed, and make sure cigarettes are put out completely in ash trays.
