Children are required to get new vaccination before the school year begins.

Kids ages 11 years old and up must get the Meningococcal shot to prevent Meningitis. They also need a booster dose of the T-Dap vaccine for Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis.

Health officials say there has been an outbreak of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, in the Mid-Michigan area. One infant has died from the illness.

Officials remind parents the diseases can be very severe and can cause death.

Some schools do not allow children in the classrooms who have not been vaccinated.

The vaccines will cost uninsured families about $30.00.
