The number 13 isn’t always unlucky.

FLINT --

Thursday, in Flint, the 13 millionth truck rolled off the line at the General Motors Flint Assembly plant, and was affectionately nicknamed “Lucky 13”.

A crowd of guests representing both General Motors and United Auto Workers Local 598 gathered to see the 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 3500HD exit the plant.

“Not only are we celebrating the 13 millionth vehicle that has been produced here since 1947; we are celebrating the heritage of some great GM products made here during the last 63 years,” Plant Manager Amy Farmer said.

The new owner is James Stubbings, who has now purchased 13 GMC trucks.

“I have been a proud owner of many GM products over the years and am especially excited that my latest purchase was built right here in Michigan,” Stubbings said.

GM also announced that they will be a 2011 platinum sponsor of Back to the Bricks, a Flint-based car show and cruise among the top 50 shows and cruises in the county.

This event was even more of a victory for the plant after talk of a possible shut down last year. The Flint Assembly plant also manufactured General Motors’ 50 millionth vehicle in 1954. It has also been home to Corvettes, Bel Airs and Suburbans, just to name a few.

2011 Sierra HDs arrived at GMC dealers in late May.
