LANSING (AP) -- The Michigan Legislature is taking another crack at allowing Sunday morning liquor sales in the state.

The state Senate passed a bill 25-13 Wednesday that would allow alcohol sales to begin at 7 a.m. on Sundays if retailers agree to pay an extra license fee. The bill now goes to the House.

Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm vetoed a similar bill earlier this year, but not because it allowed Sunday morning liquor sales. Granholm vetoed the previous legislation because it would have allowed other changes that she said could open the state to a court challenge similar to the one Michigan lost when it tried to limit alcoholic beverage sales by out-of-state businesses.

The new version of the bill drops some but not all of those provisions.
