Police arrived at Leith and Minnesota Streets in Flint early Tuesday morning and found a woman with a walker dead in the street. Someone had hit her with a car, and left her to die.
“She had a hard enough life,” said Karen Malone. “She didn't deserve to die like that.”
Karen Malone volunteers at a mission on Flint’s east side and got to know the woman killed. She often came into the mission for food.
Police aren’t identifying her, but Malone and numerous neighbors recognize the victim as a young woman named Amanda. They say the 23-year-old suffered from debilitating back injuries, needed a walker to get around, and was homeless.
Police say they are looking for witnesses as they work to determine whether someone purposefully killed her or accidentally hit her as she walked in the dark.
Neighbors say they fear someone killed her because she is a known prostitute.
Courtney Williams says she often stopped to talk to her and that someone killed a good person.
“I would walk by and give her a couple dollars when she needed it,” said Williams. “Give her something to eat when she needed it. She didn't do nothing to nobody. She was a really good girl.”
Anyone with information on who hit this woman is asked to call Flint Police.
