STANDISH (AP) -- A mid-Michigan woman accused of embezzling more than $300,000 has been sentenced from 40 months to 20 years in prison.

Sherilyn Jones, 51, of Linwood was sentenced Wednesday after being found guilty of racketeering. Chief Judge William F. Myles also ordered Jones to pay more than $300,000 in restitution.

Authorities say Jones was charged following an eight-month investigation that revealed irregularities in Arenac County's public guardian financial records between 2003 and 2009. They say she used some of the money to buy supplies for her farm.

A public guardian handles finances and lifestyle concerns for mentally or physically challenged residents.
