OSCODA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Authorities say an 80-year-old woman apparently died when she fell into a frigid river after her car crashed in a snowstorm in northeastern Michigan.

Police in Iosco County's Oscoda Township said they found the body of Eleanor Rickards in the frozen Au Sable River on Monday. The site is near U.S. 23, close to Oscoda.

Investigators say they think the car went off the road in heavy, drifting snow Sunday evening. They say Rickards apparently tried to climb the embankment but slipped and fell into the water.
