The holidays are here and so are potental dangers. Here are some tips to stay safe.

The experts at Goyette Mechancal say you should move stockings and decorations off the mantel before lighting a fire. They could catch fire. Also, use a fireplace screen when lighting a fire.

Don't burn wrapping paper. It could create sparks or heat flares.

Goyette also advises people to move candles from anything that can catch fire. Also, keep matches and lighters away from children.

In the kitchen, never leave cooking food unattended. Turn pot handles inward so children can't grab them.

Finally, keep the kitchen free from clutter and anything that could be a fire hazard.
