A local family is fighting for justice as a two year old girl is dead and her step-mother is accused of killing her.
Two year old Lily Furneaux died a month ago today, and her family says wants to keep this from happening to anyone else.
"It is hard to talk about, but it's good to talk about the good memories," says Lauren Furneaux, Lily's biological mother.
That's the goal of get-togethers and fundraisers for two year old Lily Furneaux.
Her relatives are raising money to help fund child abuse prevention services.
Lauren says, "It's keeping me busy. It's keeping my mind off of things and I want something positive to come out of this."
Lily's stepmom, 28-year-old Renee King is charged in Macomb County with sexually and physically abusing lily and ultimately killing her.
"We're hoping to help out other families that are going through the same problems we've had to go through," says Michael Furneaux, Lily's uncle.
Their t-shirts say, "Fight to infinity and beyond." It's a reference to the movie Toy Story that Lily enjoyed watching.
"We want every bit of justice Lily can get, and we will get justice for Lily," says Michael.
At Greg's Pizza Company and Lounge in Metamora, two dollars of every pizza sold Monday night goes to the effort.
T-shirts and wristbands are also up for sale.
The family has other fundraisers planned this spring and summer.
The step-mother's next court date is January 24, 2011.
The family has also set up a website and Facebook page honoring Lily.
