Friday, some students at Bridgeport High School starting arguing during the downtime of their noon lunch period.

"They were playing ball and there was some disagreements, and we worked on it. We sorted it out or so we thought," says Bridgeport-Spaulding Community Schools Superintendent Gloria Rubis.

Over the weekend, parents intercepted Facebook messages and voice-mails that led them to believe the arguments were not settled.

The school reacted with additional security.

"We have been fortunate enough in Bridgeport to not have to use metal detectors, and so we dusted off the metal detector this morning and we got it out and as our high schoolers exited the busses, we brought them through the metal detector in the hallway."

School officials say the top two priorities here are safety and quality of education and that if one of those is interrupted, they have to take action.

"We will err on the side of caution where our students are concerned," says Rubis.

No incidents were reported Monday and the school district says it is functioning normally.

Bridgeport High School ended Friday's school day a half hour early in light of the incident dismissing students bus by bus to avoid a large grouping.
