BURTON -- Update: March 31st, 2:35 p.m.

Burton Police say the 8-year-old boy who was shot Wednesday is still fighting for his life, and remains in critical condition.  Police are asking anyone with information to please step forward in order to find justice for this child.

Burton Police are asking for your help finding the shooter or shooters who injured an 8-year-old boy Wednesday morning.

It happened at the Kings Lane Apartments near Hemphill and Fenton just after 6:00 a.m.

“I heard pop, pop, pop.  I thought about four times,” said Kim Stableford.

She was visiting with a friend who lives at the complex when the shooting happened.

Police say it happened as a mom and her boyfriend got ready to pull out of their parking spot to take two children to a bus stop.

A blue SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition, pulled up next to their vehicle.  There were two men inside.  At least one of them started shooting.

“These are the kind of people we need off the streets,” said Det. Tom Bade of the Burton Police Department.  “It was multiple rounds, at least five shots into a vehicle.”

The only victim hit by a bullet was an 8-year-old boy.  The bullet went through his arm and into his chest.  Doctors performed life-saving surgery Wednesday morning. As of Wednesday evening he remains in critical condition.

Police are investigating why someone would shoot at this family.  They say it is possible the gunmen shot at the wrong people.

“It appears unprovoked,” said Det. Bade.
