HURON CO. -- The parents of a 13-year-old girl who gave birth to a stillborn baby and hid the body in an attic could lose parental rights of the girl, the 16-year old alleged father, and two other teens.

Huron County Prosecutor Timothy Rutkowski  says he has filed a petition to end the mother and father’s parental rights due to unfit living conditions.

Last week, the Saginaw County Sheriff’s department took eleven malnourished dogs from the child’s home in Huron Township. Just moments later, a Department of Human Services (DHS) employee showed up, and deemed the house unfit to live in.  This is the home where the teenage girl lived, not where the baby’s body was found in an attic.

Since then, the Prosecutor has filed a request for the parents to give up parental rights of the 13-year-old girl, 16-year-old boy, and two other teenagers based on the living conditions.  A judge will decide if there is jurisdiction in this case.

Authorities are still not releasing how the infant’s father and mother are related.  However, the boy remains in a juvenile detention center.  He will go before a judge next week in regards to Criminal Sexual Conduct charges he faces for the incident involving the child’s mother.
