Merrill Tool & Machine receives safety and health award

MERRILL -- A Mid-Michigan company has received an award for its safety and health record.

Merrill Tool & Machine  received the CET Bronze Award Thursday from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). 

“We are honored to present this award to Merrill Tool & Machine for providing their workers with a safe and healthy work environment,” said MIOSHA Director Doug Kalinowski said in a press release.  “This award recognizes their outstanding efforts to protect their workers, while still meeting the challenge of being economically competitive in today’s global marketplace.”

In order to receive the award, the company states they completed the following criteria:

  • Reduced their injury/illness incident rate by more than 50 percent within the last three calendar years; 
  • Developed and implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system; 
  • Established a safety and health committee, with both employee and management participation;
  • Developed an employee training system, with an emphasis on how to do the work in a safe and healthful manner; and 
  • Worked diligently to change their workplace culture to reflect the importance of worker safety.
